Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Ah, the humble pencil. Its tried and true design doesn’t leave much room for improvement… or does it? Mechanical pencils were the next step in the process after the iconic yellow sticks we all know and love. The Ox Tools Tuff Carbon Marking Pencil takes the concept of a mechanical pencil and merges it with a tradesman’s marker for a convenient, refillable experience.

One of the most notable design features of this marking pencil is its refillable style. This particular model includes four sticks of different colored lead. You have the pre-loaded grey and a tube each of white, yellow, and red.

If you’ve ever used a mechanical pencil, it won’t be a difficult process to figure out how this one works. You push the button at the top to dispense the lead tube until you reach your desired length of exposed lead. To change out the leads or insert one of the refill tubes, you simply hold the dispense button down while inserting the lead.

Since you can extend the lead as much as you need, this pencil can reach tight or hard-to-reach places. Moreover, it marks most surfaces both wet and dry, so you won’t have to worry about inclement weather thwarting your marking needs.

As for the construction itself, Ox designed it with a combination of polypropylene, ABS, and stainless steel. This combination helps provide durability and longer life. The cap also features an integrated lead sharpener that keeps your lead needle nose sharp.

This pencil retails for $14.98. It includes the four tubes of lead we mentioned earlier. Ox backs your purchase with a 90-day warranty.
